Brian Buono aka Scout (b. 1971 New York)

I am a self-taught artist residing and working in Columbia County in New York’s Hudson Valley. I explore in abandoned and derelict buildings for old signs, discarded pieces of metal & wood, and other detritus that will eventualy become a "canvas" for a new painting. This mining of the waste-stream is a crucial component of my practice, as the history and information contained within the reclaimed piece becomes an integral part of the new work. Using primarily spray-paint and “house” paint, I combine my love of American folk-art and portraiture with my background in punk rock music, graffiti and street-art to create works that are both graphic and layered.
